When my 8-year-old daughter describes my job, she says I spend my days playing with toys in the office. Honestly, she’s not far off! A big part of my work involves staying on top of the newest toy releases, evaluating them, and keeping our toy reviews and age-specific gift guides fresh and relevant. I also contribute to the prestigious Good Housekeeping Best Toy Awards, collaborating with the Good Housekeeping Institute to spotlight the year’s best toys.
The process starts with previewing new toys and bringing them to our office, where experts thoroughly assess their quality. From there, the toys are handed over to real families, who deliver the ultimate verdict by letting kids play with them in the most natural way. (Fun fact: My daughter tested 22 of these toys herself over the summer—no wonder she sees my job as pure fun!)
After five years of reviewing toys, one thing is clear: everyone—whether it’s parents, toy experts, or the kids themselves—is looking for the same key qualities in a gift. Toys should be durable, engaging, and, most importantly, fun. This curated list is a mix of my tried-and-true favorites and the latest exciting finds, perfect for kids of all ages.
